Workload:
Workload of student for successfully completing the course. Each ECTS credit represents 30 working hours. These are the combined effort of face-to-face time, post-processing the subject of the lecture, exercises and preparation for the exam.

The total workload is distributed on the semester (01.04.-30.09. during the summer term, 01.10.-31.03. during the winter term).
60 class hours (= 45 clock hours) over a 15-week period.
The total student study time is 180 hours (equivalent to 6 ECTS credits).
There are therefore 135 hours available for class preparation and follow-up work and exam preparation.

Learning outcomes:
Communication skills
After successfully completing this module, students will:
_ understand communication processes.
_ be able to communicate effectively.
_ understand and be able to apply communication as a management tool.
 
Foreign language
Building upon the compulsory foreign language courses in the Civil Engineering Bachelor program, students will develop their ability to express themselves in job-related situations in their foreign language resp. deepen their acquired knowledge at a higher level.
After successfully completing this module, students will:
_ acquire the language skills and knowledge required for carrying out presentations in their foreign language and for professional and intercultural communication in meetings and negotiations in foreign countries.
All of the four basic skills (reception, production, interaction and mediation) will be trained in an integrated manner, with an emphasis on listening comprehension and speaking. Content from the team projects that the students carry out during their Master program will be used as a technical backdrop for the development of the specialized language skills. Content development is supported by the repetition of vocabulary, relevant linguistic structures and special features.

_ Planning and conducting discussions,
_ Rhetoric and argumentation,
_ Questioning techniques,
_ Recognizing, interpreting and using body language,
_ Knowing and using types of conversations in a targeted manner (e.g. small talk)   
 
Foreign language
_ Specialized texts from the field of transport, energy supply and waste management including strategies for global and detailed comprehension.
_ Technical vocabulary for the subject area
_ Presentation skills (structure and verbal expressions, presentation slides, visual aids)
_ Presenting projects and products
_ Verbal expressions and intercultural skills for participating in and moderating meetings
_ Verbal expressions and intercultural skills for participating in negotiations
