Module name (EN):
Name of module in study programme. It should be precise and clear.
Engineering Mechanics I
Degree programme:
Study Programme with validity of corresponding study regulations containing this module.
Automotive Engineering, Bachelor, ASPO 01.10.2019
Module code: FT04.3
SAP-Submodule-No.:
The exam administration creates a SAP-Submodule-No for every exam type in every module. The SAP-Submodule-No is equal for the same module in different study programs.
P242-0086, P242-0087, P242-0088
Hours per semester week / Teaching method:
The count of hours per week is a combination of lecture (V for German Vorlesung), exercise (U for Übung), practice (P) oder project (PA). For example a course of the form 2V+2U has 2 hours of lecture and 2 hours of exercise per week.
2V+2U (4 hours per week)

FT04.3 (P242-0086, P242-0087, P242-0088) Automotive Engineering, Bachelor, ASPO 01.04.2016 , semester 1, mandatory course
FT04.3 (P242-0086, P242-0087, P242-0088) Automotive Engineering, Bachelor, ASPO 01.10.2019 , semester 1, mandatory course
Workload:
Workload of student for successfully completing the course. Each ECTS credit represents 30 working hours. These are the combined effort of face-to-face time, post-processing the subject of the lecture, exercises and preparation for the exam.

The total workload is distributed on the semester (01.04.-30.09. during the summer term, 01.10.-31.03. during the winter term).
60 class hours (= 45 clock hours) over a 15-week period.
The total student study time is 120 hours (equivalent to 4 ECTS credits).
There are therefore 75 hours available for class preparation and follow-up work and exam preparation.
Recommended prerequisites (modules):
None.
Recommended as prerequisite for:
FT09.1 Engineering Mechanics II
FT09.3 Strength of Materials
FT16.1 Vehicle Superstructures and Lightweight Construction
FT19.1 Passive Vehicle Safety
FT26.1 Project Work 1

Learning outcomes:
EVA: (1) Erinnern (Know)--> (2) Verstehen (Understand)--> (3) Anwenden (Apply)
(3) requires (2 AND 1), (2) requires (1).

After successfully completing this course, students will be familiar with:
- the concept of "force" and can categorize forces.
- idealizations and the axioms of statics.
- the concepts of "moment", "moment of couple", "moment of force" with respect to a point, "moment" with respect to an axis

Students will understand the following:
- free body diagrams and the concept of balance for the central and general systems of forces
- equivalent systems
- Bearing types and reactions
- Center of gravity calculations
- Line/area loads

Students will be able to apply the basic principles of statics including the above mentioned terms and methods to various practical problems in order to calculate internal and external reactions on structural elements in static equilibrium. Some examples:
- General plane and spatial force systems, systems of rigid bodies
- Adhesion and friction problems
