Learning outcomes:
In this course, students will acquire basic knowledge in the field of conventional measurement technology including the corresponding measurement setups and necessary equipment. After successfully comnpleting this course, they will be able to: - name and assess measuring instruments and their components with regard to their construction, functions and performance characteristics and select them for their intended use. - set up and calibrate measuring equipment independently. - evaluate measurement results.

Lecture: Principles of metrology - Fundamental requirements - Units - Measuring systems - Measurement errors Components of measuring equipment - Sensors - Devices for converting measured variables - Devices for processing measured variables - Devices for the output of measured variables - Devices for storing measured variables Measurement methods - Measuring mechanical quantities - Flow rate measurement - Measuring thermal quantities - Measuring electrical quantities Lab experiments: - Calibrating measuring instruments, performing measurements and evaluating measurement results - Preparing the practical application of the acquired knowledge in subsequent laboratory courses (6th semester)
