Learning outcomes:
The students, who have widely varying levels of language proficiency, will be introduced to those aspects of the language that are of relevance to their future careers. This will require repetition and extension of a student’s existing language skills. Building on this foundation, students will practice career-related situations such as telephoning, making arrangements and other general communicative skills. The main focus of the course is on improving the students’ oral expression and listening comprehension. Parallel to this, the course aims to expand the students’ technical vocabulary and to acquaint them with those aspects of business English required by today’s engineers. Before taking this course, students should have acquired English language proficiency equivalent to Level B1 (Threshold) of the Common European Framework, corresponding to the language skills of those who have attained a German intermediate school leaving certificate (mittlerer Bildungsabschluss / Realschulabschluss).
