Learning outcomes:
The development of nursing and therapy sciences:
This module provides insight into the "scientificization" of the nursing and health field and provides an overview of important historical and occupational developments. Students will be able to understand the consequences for the development of the professions in the context of other occupational groups and interpret them from a professional policy perspective. The legal foundations of the professions are well known and can be explained in the context of professionalization and academization. Current developments in health policy will also be addressed and their consequences introduced into the debate on the professionalization of nursing and healthcare occupations..

Social science references in nursing and therapy sciences:
The course will present social science perspectives on health-related action. After successfully completing this module, students will have developed or deepened their social science knowledge and be able to understand the bio- and psychosocial connections between health and illness. They will be able to apply this knowledge to the selection of health and care-related interventions and to justify their decisions based on this knowledge. They will be able to analyze problematic areas and develop approaches to solutions. Theories will be reflected with regard to their application and their relevance will be determined and implemented at the different levels of health care. Students will be able to reflect on the significance of social science findings for their own role in the process of professionalization.

Theory and research in health professions
The seminar is based on the course "Academic Methodologies and Study Skills I" (BAME 05) from the 1st semester. Students will be familiar with the situation and status of nursing science in Germany. Their professional activities will be based on theoretical or abstract grounds for action. Accordingly, the focus of this course will be on the theories, models and concepts of health care professions. After an introduction, students will work with original literature and apply their findings to a practical context. At the end of the course, students will synthesize their findings and categorize the theories, models and concepts they have worked on.
