Learning outcomes:
After successfully completing this course, students will: a) At a professional level ... be able to recognize and describe social work and childhood education institutions in terms of their organization, based on organizational theory fundamentals (e.g., the concept of organization, organizational concepts, organizational theories). … have developed an understanding of the special characteristics of social organizations and their impact on management. … be able to recognize structural problems/paradoxes and their impact on interaction with the target audience. ... be able to describe and critically reflect on the integration of an organization into a support system and the functions of the various types of support providers in providing and financing social services. ... be able to recognize current developments in the economization of social work in their effects on voluntary welfare work and individual organizations. … be able to conduct an organizational analysis, identifying the organizational goals, organizational structure, membership conditions, integration into a support system, etc. of a specific social institution and evaluating their usefulness. b) At an interdisciplinary level …be able to read and understand scientific literature independently and use theoretical categories and concepts to understand experiences and problems. ... be aware of the importance of organizational frameworks for their own actions in organizations (as employees, interns, volunteers)

Module content:
BSP 18.1 Lecture I. Principles of Organizational Theory • Definition of an organization • Categories for analyzing organizations (basic elements, the three sides of an organization) • Basic organizational concepts and selected organizational theories II. Specifics of organized social work • Characteristics of social services, more recent service theory • Participation of addressees in social organizations • Prevention and protection concepts and their implementation III. Support system • Support structures and interaction between support providers (subsidiarity principle, corporatism, governance) • Significance and developments of independent social welfare • Basic forms of financing for social organizations and the “economization of social work” BSP 18.2 Seminar The seminar deepens the content of the lecture by deriving questions for organizational analysis and working through them using a social organization as an example.
