Workload:
Workload of student for successfully completing the course. Each ECTS credit represents 30 working hours. These are the combined effort of face-to-face time, post-processing the subject of the lecture, exercises and preparation for the exam.

The total workload is distributed on the semester (01.04.-30.09. during the summer term, 01.10.-31.03. during the winter term).
75 class hours (= 56.25 clock hours) over a 15-week period.
The total student study time is 180 hours (equivalent to 6 ECTS credits).
There are therefore 123.75 hours available for class preparation and follow-up work and exam preparation.

Learning outcomes:
After successfully completing this module, students will be familair with basic urban planning topics in theory and practice.
 
Learning objectives will be linked and new skills will be developed through excursions, exercises and projects.
 
By encouraging group work, social skills woll be developed and supported. The teaching method helps students develop their methodological competence by encouraging them to work on and solve planning tasks independently.

Module content:
The first steps towards urban development planning will be taught and practiced in analytically and through drawing. The focus lies on applying the content learned for evaluating buildability, the scope of construction, the appropriate amount of development and the implementation of planning. Proportions, basic dimensions, reference values and legal framework conditions will be explained and practiced, and awareness for the social relevance of urban planning will be raised and trained.
 
This module comprises the following topics:
·  Basic knowledge about planning levels
·  Public building planning law and its impact on urban development and building planning
·  Construction methods and sites that can be built on
·  Type and extent of structural land use
·  Infrastructure in theory and practice
·  First steps of urban development analysis
·  Concepts of space, spatial proportions, use of space
·  Raising awareness for necessity and opportunities

Teaching methods/Media:
Lecture (use of eletronic media), independent preparation of exercises, presentations or theoretical work.
 
Final colloquium with presentations and discussions of results. Project in the work room.
