Workload:
Workload of student for successfully completing the course. Each ECTS credit represents 30 working hours. These are the combined effort of face-to-face time, post-processing the subject of the lecture, exercises and preparation for the exam.

The total workload is distributed on the semester (01.04.-30.09. during the summer term, 01.10.-31.03. during the winter term).
150 class hours (= 112.5 clock hours) over a 15-week period.
The total student study time is 360 hours (equivalent to 12 ECTS credits).
There are therefore 247.5 hours available for class preparation and follow-up work and exam preparation.

Learning outcomes:
After successfully completing this module, students will:
• be able to design buildings of moderate complexity methodically, analytically and creatively and translate this knowledge into concrete design plans using their basic knowledge of building construction and load-bearing structures.
 
 
• be familiar with and able to explain basic urban planning issues in both theory and their practical implications.
 
• be familiar with the basic features of urban planning analysis and design and be able to place their building design in an urban context.
 
• be able to explain buildability, building scale and appropriate development and planning implementation.
 
• understand and be aware of the social relevance of urban planning.
• be able to present their design in analog and digital form, discuss it with others and deal with criticism constructively.
 
Learning outcomes of the project week at the beginning of the course:
After successfully completing this module, students will be able to:
• integrate themselves into a team and work in a team.
• plan and execute a project within a given timeframe.
• present their findings, discuss with others, and deal constructively with criticism.

Module content:
• Dealing with an urban context while working on a contemporary task.
• Communicating a creative and functional design solution typologically and constructively using appropriate representational media.
 
• The focus is on the development of solutions for residential buildings and the interconnected design of interior and exterior spaces.
 
• Urban planning analysis, concept development and elaboration focusing on the aspects: urban context, functional and atmospheric implementation.
 
• Links to the module Städtebau 1, related to Gebäudelehre 1
 
Contents in-depth project Urban Planning 1:
•        Recognizing and evaluating urban structures and morphologies
•        Presenting reference examples in plans and models
•        Introduction to urban design, individual steps and interactions, analysis, mission statement, action concept, drawing up a plan of action
