Learning outcomes:
The aim of this module is to enable students to plan, simulate and assess the scope of complex mechatronic systems to be used in industrial applications. Students will gain knowledge and experience in the use of simulation tools and techniques in the fields of development, construction and functional testing. The practicability of mechatronic systems can be tested and optimized using simulation tools.

Module content:
1.Introduction to simulation methods 2.Overview of simulation tools (Matlab/Simulink, Mathcad, Simit, Trysim) 3.Generating simulation models for mechatronic systems Mathematical models and simulation concepts (state space, systems of differential equations, linearization, state-flow systems) Example applications of mechatronic systems(robot systems, the inverse pendulum, multivariate systems and their control in state space) Note: The exact content of this module will be decided by the responsible member of academic staff, who will probably be appointed in the summer semester 2005.
