Learning outcomes:
Principles and Selected Aspects of Criminal and Civil Law:
After successfully completing this course, students will be familiar with basic methods and knowledge that can be used to solve criminal and civil law issues and cases.
By studying the general rules of civil law and contract law, students should be able to understand standard contractual arrangements in the health care system in a legal manner. Students will have developed an awareness of the role of the judiciary in the development of law.
Through study of the structure, principles and legal norms of the Criminal Code relevant to health and nursing professions, the students will be able to recognise criminally relevant actions in the context of their professional practice in good time and thus, be able to prevent them.

Basics of Social Security Law:
Students will receive an introduction to the respective fields of social security law.
A special focus will be put on the connection between law and health. Students will recieve an overview of the current legal structures of health care provision both in the context of the social security system in general and with regard to the risk-related institutionalization of health care. They will become familiar with health policy conflicts through the discussion of individual legal social law controversies (e.g. Nursing Care Act/Geriatric Care Act). These issues will be discussed systematically, as well as on the basis of supreme court rulings or current legislative policy debates.
And finally, students will study European law issues related to cross-border health services on the basis of cases from the Court of Justice of the European Communities (ECJ).
In addition, students will become familiar with issues pertaining to basic social security law (including social data protection, nursing care insurance, health insurance), hospital law and nursing home law. Students will understand the legal framework of hospital care and hospital law. Furthermore, they will become familiar with the legal system of the Heimrecht (nursing home law), in particular the nursing home law itself and its corresponding regulations, e.g. regulations pertaining to personnel, insurance and resident participation.
