Learning outcomes:
Basic Ethical Principles:
After successfully completing this part of the module, students will understand the ethical dimension of human actions and will be able to identify and systematically analyze ethical dimensions in concrete contexts. They will be familiar with the basics of nursing ethics and will be able to recognize ethical problems in the field of nursing and analyze them with regard to their ethical implications. Students will be able to work out value orientations and will develop the ability to recognize and determine ethical dilemmas in nursing based on disease patterns and research issues. They will be able to justify decisions for specific nursing actions based on the ethical dimension. This will be able to recognize the importance of interdisciplinary action and to moderate ethical case discussions.
Advanced aspects: Selected aspects of guardianship/care and professional law:
The new requirements for dealing with people in need of care and those subject to care can pose considerable problems. Students will be familiar with the basics of the care/guardianship law. This will enable them to recognize problems in care/guardianship law and find adequate solutions.
In addition, students will be familiar with the essential problems of advance dispositions (living wills, precautionary power of attorney, care directive). They will also know about the problems involved in the preparation of a advance disposition, as well as the problems in everyday medical and nursing life. Furthermore, students will be familiar with ways of drafting living wills, precautionary powers of attorney and care directives and will be aware of their possibilities and limits.
They will also be familiar with topics regarding training and professional law. In addition to national law, the implications and developments of European law will also be discussed in this module.
These issues will be discussed systematically, as well as on the basis of supreme court rulings and current legislative policy debates. Students will be able to make initial legal assessment themselves based on discussions about legal cases within the framework of the module..
