Learning outcomes:
After completing this course, students will have acquired a detailed functional overview of vehicle systems based on the underlying physical and technical relationships. The lectures will also address the latest trends, some of which are not yet in volume production. The project work enables students to practice what they have learned and use their skills in a concrete project. Students will be able to develop automotive subsystems, systems and modules.

Module content:
A. Lectures: 1. Engine/transmission management, fuel-conservation strategies, innovative drive modules 2. Self-steering systems (dual track model), Electronic chassis and suspension control systems (ABS, DSC, ESP, electrically assisted steering, advanced ESP+ functions, controlled suspension and damping) 3. Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication (ACC+, cooperative driving, hazard warning) 4. Human-machine interface (HMI) 5. Development methods (vehicle simulation techniques, objective and subjective assessments of vehicle properties, responsibility of partners in the development process) B. Project work Implementation of knowledge and skills learned in real projects. Example projects: - Standardized power measurement and fuel consumption measurement - Measurement of in-engine processes / Cylinder-pressure measurement - Pollutant conversion in a catalytic converter / Exhaust-gas measurement techniques - Application of a software program for the computational prediction of combustion engines - Measurement of running-resistance and motive force in order to create a tractive-force diagram. - Measurement of self-steering behaviour in real vehicles - Subjective assessment of vehicle characteristics - Measuring the kinematic and elastokinematic chassis parameters
