Learning outcomes:
The aim of the seminar is to work together to develop ideas for recommendations for action that will counteract structural discrimination at the organizational level and strengthen trust between the police and civil society. Seminar participants will actively participate in the analysis of organizational structures and gain insights into an ongoing research project. We look forward to a joint learning process and exchange with our cooperation partners, the Anti-Discrimination Forum Saar and the State Police Headquarters.

Module content:
Organizational education: Organizational learning and social work in times of social transformation

Organizational education focuses on learning in, from, and between organizations, a perspective that is particularly important for managers in social organizations. In this seminar, we will use this organizational educational perspective to understand how structures and processes in social service organizations influence learning and action (Göhlich et al. 2017). Our focus is on an ongoing empirical research project on the topic of “discrimination” in police structures.
We will consider discrimination not only as isolated actions by individuals, but as a complex system of social relationships that produces intergroup inequalities. Together, we will adopt a critical organizational educational perspective that aims to understand learning and unlearning processes related to discrimination not only at the individual level, but above all at the organizational level (Schröder 2023b, i.E.). The challenge is to change structures in such a way that organizations implement difference-sensitive and discrimination-critical practices in the long term.
