Workload:
Workload of student for successfully completing the course. Each ECTS credit represents 30 working hours. These are the combined effort of face-to-face time, post-processing the subject of the lecture, exercises and preparation for the exam.

The total workload is distributed on the semester (01.04.-30.09. during the summer term, 01.10.-31.03. during the winter term).

Learning outcomes:
After successfully completing this module students will:
• be familiar with the most important basics of German commercial private law for industrial engineers
• understand the function and mechanisms of civil law
• be able to apply legal texts independently, interpret each regulation and relate them to one another
• be able to understand the relevance of regulations for operational practice
• be able to develop solutions for specific cases by classifying the problem, subsuming the facts under the characteristics of the relevant regulations and deriving the result from them
• be able to review the results based on general legal value judgements.

1. Basic concepts of the legal system
2. Contract and contractual freedom as central elements of legal transactions between companies
3. Concluding contracts (e.g. contractual obligations and transfer of ownership, form, representation); principles of GTC law
4. Fulfilment of contracts and defective performance
5. Important types of contracts in the manufacturing industry (purchase contract, contract for work and services)
6. Commercial law (commercial register, merchants, companies, commercial law representatives, commercial transactions in the manufacturing industry) and corporate law (partnerships and corporations)
