Workload:
Workload of student for successfully completing the course. Each ECTS credit represents 30 working hours. These are the combined effort of face-to-face time, post-processing the subject of the lecture, exercises and preparation for the exam.

The total workload is distributed on the semester (01.04.-30.09. during the summer term, 01.10.-31.03. during the winter term).
90 class hours (= 67.5 clock hours) over a 15-week period.
The total student study time is 240 hours (equivalent to 8 ECTS credits).
There are therefore 172.5 hours available for class preparation and follow-up work and exam preparation.

Learning outcomes:
Quantitative Methods:
After successfully completing this module, students will be familiar with quantitative research methods for working on empirical topics from the professional field of nursing or interdisciplinary projects. They will understand research results, be able to critically evaluate studies, concepts, procedures and the results of research processes. Students will be familiar with the central inductive statistics methods, will be able to apply them and interpret their results in a technically appropriate manner.
 
Qualitative Methods:
Students will be familiar with basic principles of qualitative research, their most important approaches in development, theory, significance and exemplary application. They will be familiar with relevant methods of qualitative data collection and evaluation, will be able to apply them in a well-founded and context-related manner, and will be able to critically assess qualitative research results. Students will have received an introduction to the MAXQDA software program, used for qualitative data analysis.

Qualitative Methods:
1. Development and justification of qualitative social research
2. An overview of scientific-theoretical and methodological principles, concepts and approaches of qualitative procedures (understanding sociology, phenomenology, symbolic interactionism, ethnology, grounded theory, objective hermeneutics)
3. Empirical-qualitative research process: Requirements, procedures, evaluation, implementation
4. Data collection and evaluation: relevant interview procedures, forms of observation, coding, content analysis and computer-aided data analysis
5. Quality criteria of qualitative research
6. Research results: Evaluation, presentation, publication; transfering research results into professional practice
7. Qualitative versus quantitative methods; indication, relevance, results, scope
